Punjabi University organizes lecture on Current global crisis

Punjabi University’s Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology organised a lecture on the “Current Global Crisis” by Dr Pritam Singh, Director, Postgraduate Programme in International Management and International Relations at Oxford Brookes University, U.K.


Dubbing the current economic crisis as a crisis of global capitalism, he linked it with capitalist production system and the rampant use of non renewable resources. It involved the evolution of political economic thought and its impact on policy making, the unstable financial markets, and the depleting oil and food resources, he said. The unscrupulous use of nature and its resources and the resultant pollution caused by the consumed and unconsumed waste has intensified the situation, Dr Singh added. He emphasized upon the need for evolving a new paradigm, keeping in view the ecological dimension. The lecture was followed by a discussion by Dr. Sucha Singh Gill, Dr. Birinder Pal Singh, Dr. Gurbhagat Singh, Dr. Joga Singh and others.
