Chandigarh allotted 2150 crore under budget

The Centre has allocated Rs. 300.35 crore under the plan Budget and Rs. 1849 crores for the non Plan Budget for year 2009-10, revealed the Spokesperson of the Administration.


The spokesperson further said that the Plan budgetary allocations are primarily aiming at three major areas including Human Development, Infrastructure and Environment. The allocation under these three areas is Rs. 268.30 Crore which comes to 89.3% of the total Plan allocation. A sum of Rs. 89.03 Crore (30%) is kept for Human Development, Rs. 177.85 Crore (59%) is provided for Infrastructure and Rs. 1.42 Crore (0.5%) is for Environment. An allocation of Rs. 40.73 Crore (13.6%) has been kept under Education Sector and Rs. 43.64 Crore (14.5%) under Medical and Public Health sector.
He further revealed that Non-Plan Budget has increased mainly for the anticipated revision of Pay Scale of the employees. Out of total allocation, Rs. 767.62 Crore are meant for salaries of employees. Out of non-salary objects, the provision for grant-in-aid to Municipal Corporation is Rs. 166.12 Crore and Panjab University is Rs. 34.00 Crore. Rs. 440.29 Crore have been kept for Power Sector for supply of electricity, whereas for Education, Arts, Sports and Culture Rs. 275.89 Crore has bee allocated. Rs. 95.77 Crore is meant for Health sector and Rs. 164.46 Crore for Chandigarh Police and Jails Department. The allocation for Transport sector under Non-Plan is, however, Rs. 129.16 Crore.
It was also stated that the budgeted surplus for the year 2009-10 have been projected by the Administration at Rs. 133.00 Crore. The budgeted surplus during the year 2008-09 has been Rs. 623.50 crores. The budgeted surplus during the consecutive last five years was not only achieved but has been exceeded at the close of every financial year and even in this financial year, this may exceed the budget, said the spokesperson.
