Punjabi University organizes psychofest

Punjabi University’s Department of Psychology organised a free psychological testing and counselling camp, “Psychofest”, aimed at developing a positive personality and an attitude of wellbeing towards life in its department here today. Workshops on emotional intelligence, interview skills and behaviour modification attracted a large number of visitors to interact with the experts to get valuable tips to live a quality life.


Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, Dr Jaspal Singh said that the best gift of life was good physical and mental health without which no spiritual or any other kind of attainment was possible. He emphasized upon developing holistic health and an affirmative attitude towards life for which the science of psychology can play a pivotal rile. The fast food culture and different kinds of environmental pollutants, increasing with each passing day, further necessitate the adoption of measures oriented towards maintaining good health, he said.
According to Dr S.K. Sokhi, HoD of Psychology said that workshop on behaviour modification provided valuable tips to the participants about changing their faulty lifestyle patterns and polishing their verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Different kinds of relaxation therapies were given through professionally handled music therapy, EEG, EMG, ECG, GSR and temperature biofeedback. Multi-behaviour therapies and psychological testing facilities were also given in five different cells through
standardized psychological tests aimed at testing personality intelligence aptitude, well being, stress and anxiety levels.
Around 1,000 participants were tested and provided with suitable counselling, of which 25 per cent registered themselves for the relaxation cell only. Students from professional courses line B.Tech. MBA, Computer Science and Law and outnumbered students from other disciplines.
