Two Punjabis Sampuran Singh Arora aka Gulzar and Sukhwinder Singh, both hailing from Amritsar have been instrumental in song Jai Ho of Slumdog Millionaire. Written by Gulzar and sung by Sukhwinder Singh, the song Jai Ho won academy award for best Original Song.
