Elections to Panchayat Samities and Zila Parishads in Punjab will be held on May 12,2008. Earlier the general elections to Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishads were scheduled to be held on April 7, 2008. However they were postponed pursuant to unanimous resolution of Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
Department of Rural Development and Panchayats has also conveyed that the general elections to Gram Panchayats be held by 31st May 2008.  Accordingly, it is announced that the poll for general elections to Gram Panchayats shall be held on 26.05.2008.  Detailed schedule for this purpose shall be issued separately.  Since the Model Code of Conduct is already in force on account of Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad general elections, the same shall continue to remain in force till the completion of Gram Panchayat elections.
