Knowledge park to be developed at SAS Nagar Mohali

The Council of Ministers in its meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister S.Parkash Singh Badal here today decided to approve 210 acres of land in Sector 81, SAS Nagar Mohali in possession with Punjab Government to be transferred for setting up of ‘Knowledge City’.
Disclosing this here today a spokesman of the Punjab Government said that three national levels institutes namely Indian Institute of Science Education & Research, National Institute of Nanotechnology and National Institute of Agri-Food Biotechnology would be set up.
The Council of Ministers also approved to transfer the vacant land of Central Jails at Amrtisar, Gurdaspur and Ferozepur to PIDB that would prepare the project and commercially exploit these properties. The surplus land around 294 acres of Kapurthala Open Jail would be transferred to PSIEC for developing an Industrial Focal Point. A modern Prison in the jurisdiction of District Kapurthala and another in Faridkot with a capacity to accommodate about 2500 prisoners each along with necessary modern infrastructure including a multi-speciality hospital at Faridkot to cater for the treatment of all the prisoners of Punjab with serious illness who require a special treatment in various hospitals, outside the prisons of Punjab will be built.
The Council of Ministers also gave its approval to transfer 70 acres of land belonging to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot to the Department of Home Affairs and Justice (Jail Department) for the construction of Modern Jail at Faridkot.
The Council of Ministers also gave its approval to amend Section 2 of Punjab Value Added Tax 2005- Adjustment of reduction in the price of Petrol and Diesel announced by Union Government. The Council of Ministers also gave its nod to transfer of approximately 37.53 acres surplus land of institute of Mental Hospital Amrtisar to PIDB under OUVGL scheme for commercial exploitation and to repay the loan liability of the PHSC. The Council of Ministers also gave its nod for giving relaxation in experience as per provision contained in rule 6 (1) (i) (a) of Punjab Police Rules, 1959 under rule 14 bid as well as provisions of Rule 19 of the Punjab Civil Services (General & Common Conditions of service) Rules, 1994 from six years to 5-1/2 years for the promotion of Inspectors of Police to the rank of DSPs.
The Council of Ministers also gave its approval to reconstitute the Cabinet Sub Committee comprising of Mr.Parkash Singh Badal Chief Minister as Chairman, Mr. Manoranjan Kalia, Local Government Industries & Commerce Minister, Mr.Ranjit Singh Brahampura, Rural Development & Panchayats Minister, Capt. Kanwaljit Singh, Cooperation Minister and Mrs.Upinderjit Kaur, Education Minister as members. This Cabinet sub committee will discuss in detail the issue of amendment in the relevant rules for making the registration of marriages compulsory. The Council of Ministers approved the annual administrative reports of the Cooperation Department for the year 2005-06, Agriculture Department for the year 2004-05 and 2005-06, Horticulture Department for the year 2004-05 and 2005-06 and Land Reports for the year 2004-05.
