Akali Dal to stage dharna at Chandigarh on Oct 15
In order to force the Union Government to announce a special package for the debt ridden Punjab farmers and to get tax concessions for the state industry on the pattern of J&K and Himachal Pradesh , the Shiromani Akali Dal has decided to stage a state level protest demonstration at Matka Chowk, Chandigarh on October 15 this month.
This was announced by the SAD President Mr. Parkash Singh Badal in a statement released to the press from the party head office in Chandigarh today.
Strongly pleading the case of poor farmers of the state Mr. Badal said, “We want that the Union Govt. should write off all the debt of the farmers of the state. In addition, keeping in view the rising prices of all agricultural inputs the MSP of wheat should be fixed at Rs. 1,000 per quintal,”
“To improve the plight of the suffering peasantry, we also demand that MSP should be linked permanently with the price index” added Mr. Badal.
Mr. Badal also said that we would compel the Union Govt. to provide same facilities and concessions to the industry in Punjab as are being given to J&K and Himachal Pradesh.
He strongly lambasted the Union Govt. for discriminating the state and willfully keeping the Punjab out of the list of states, which had been given special package. He said that the Punjab Chief Minister has miserably failed in presenting the case of Punjab farmer and industrialist before the Union government. Due to his criminal negligence the whole state has suffered.
